I mean. I am over 40 year old now.
My dad is nearing the end of his life, and my mom is getting older everyday.
Life is like canoeing. When you look from afar, life looks beautiful, just like a river flowing through the forest. But when you are in it, you still get the astonishing view, but now you have to work hard to move forward. You can let the life take you to wherever, then you probably will end up being trapped in a place full of other people like you. When you struggled to move forward, you can be pushed by a sudden move of the river. When you want to work even harder, you'll find yourself standing in front of a most beautiful beach. For a short while, before you can even start enjoying the view, another wave came and move you to next chapter of life.
Until you reach the end point, leave the canoe, and look at the river from afar.
If we can learn not to invest too much emotion on the scenes we have seen on the journey, we can avoid the pain and sorrow of missing and lost. So when you face the life with a numb heart, you don't feel anything including the joy and the pain.
But
If we already know life is like canoeing. We'll see something, miss something, and eventually we will have to leave this river and let our companions move forward without us.
Then so be it. I am not afraid.
Life is like canoeing, I don't want to just look from afar. That's why we are all here, aren't we?
